In last night’s (January 14) game against the Indiana Pacers, the All-Star guard for the Memphis Grizzlies made a huge NBA splash. Ja Morant’s poster dunk against Jalen Smith stunned the NBA. In addition, some are referring to it as the dunk of the year (let Twitter live, it’s only the second week of January). However, some of the basketball luminaries and notable players that hailed the achievement may deserve the highest appreciation.

The 6’10” Smith had no chance against Morant’s rush to the hoop, even with his 6’3″ height. This is unquestionably one of his best career dunks, despite the fact that he’s attempted this type of move before and failed. The dunk became popular online because of the dramatic scene, and Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett gave it his approval.

When everything is said and done, Ja’s in-game dunk highlights “are going to rank among some of the finest ever,” the former Celtic tweeted.

Other NBA players also wanted to express their astounded reactions. The Washington Wizards’ forward Kyle Kuzma concurred with Garnett’s assertion. A group of memes encapsulating his ideas were also shared by Brooklyn Nets player Kevin Durant. After all, a meme can be worth millions of dollars and an image can be worth a thousand words.

Kendrick Perkins, an ESPN analyst and former player, confirmed his previous criticism of his support for the Grizzlies last season. He even argued that Morant should be included on the team for this year’s NBA All-Star Game. In fact, he’s third among fans in the guard category, just behind Steph Curry and Luka Doncic.

However, there is one more thing that people (and existing players) want from Morant: they want him to take part in the NBA Dunk Contest. Additionally, there is still one spot available for the All-Star weekend competition, and Donovan Mitchell urged him to enter on Twitter. Despite the excitement that many people have expressed, it doesn’t seem likely.
