Not only did she serve on our board of directors, but she was also a close personal friend to many of us. Having her as part of our team has been really helpful to the organization. We were really taken aback by this piece of information, and it is giving us a lot of cause for concern. There will be a change in the nature of our relationship if she is not present.

After the tragic death of Niagara-on-the-Lake resident Louise Leyland on Saturday, who was killed when she was hit by a bike in Queenston, The Lake Report reached out to Amanda Gamble, executive director of the Friends of Fort George, to hear her thoughts on the life of this wonderful woman. The town of Niagara-on-the-Lake was home to Louise Leyland. Louise Leyland was very involved in the community of Niagara-on-the-Lake during her lifetime. Throughout her life, Louise Leyland considered the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake to be home. Louise Leyland, a native of Niagara-on-the-Lake, attained widespread renown and admiration throughout her lifetime.

She collaborated with other parties to organize commemorations of the Battle of Queenston Heights and Major-General Sir Isaac Brock’s funeral. These two gatherings were organized as tributes to her. The United States and Great Britain fought a war in 1812, and that year marked the bicentennial of the war, often known as the War of 1812 Bicentennial.
