Jose Costa Obituary, Death – We are sorry to have to break the news to you that we have some unfortunate developments to report, and we say this with a heavy heart. The 22nd of March, 2023 was the day that José “Joe” Costa, a much-loved member of our crossing guard personnel, passed away. It was usual practice to refer to him as “Joe.” In the year 2014, José became a part of the group of individuals who are employed by the City of Burlington to perform the duties of crossing guards.
He worked as a crossing guard for Glenview Public School, which is located in the area around Aldershot. Throughout his time there, he earned a reputation for his dedication and was liked by both the students and the staff. When Mr. Joe was off duty, the children would worry and ask, “Where is Mr. Joe today?” While Jose was on the job, he would smile and wave to everyone passing by, but when Mr. Joe was off duty, he would not.
Hearing this has caused us to feel a great deal of pain, and we are keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers as they go through this trying time. We are sorry for their loss.
In memory of José, the flags that are flown over City Hall will be lowered to the half-staff position until Monday.
