Edwin Contreras Death, Obituary – We are saddened to inform you that Edwin Contreras, a member of the SIFAT Ecuador engineering team, died away yesterday. Our hearts are filled with sadness at the news of his demise. During this trying time, we want his family to know that we are thinking about and praying for them. Beginning with the team he served on in the year 2000, soon after he became a Christian, and culminating with the team that flew to Quito earlier this month, Edwin’s passion for the children of Ecuador was on full show during each of the teams he participated in.

His service began in the year 2000, shortly after he became a Christian, and continued up until the time that the team that went to Quito earlier this month completed their mission there. Our mission teams were able to construct buildings under his guidance that would provide an environment in which children could study, play, and develop in a secure environment. The meaning of Edwin’s grin and the sparkle in his eyes did not require any kind of explanation or translation on anyone’s part.

In spite of the fact that Edwin’s health has been steadily deteriorating over the course of the past several years, he has been making a strong effort each day to continue working. He has kept a steady and inconspicuous presence at the construction site, where he monitors the progress of the work and makes sure that everything is being built properly while paying particular attention to each and every detail.

We will never forget that “it’s for the children,” and we want to encourage you, Edwin, to continue working toward the aim of making life better for children in Ecuador.
