Don Radel Obituary, Death, Donald Radel Unexpectedly Passed Away

Don Radel Obituary, Death – Donald Paul Radel, who was 89 years old and originally from Evan, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Autumn Grace Senior Living in Mankato, Minnesota.
Don Radel was the son of Paul and Elma (Neumann) Radel, and he was born on March 25, 1925 in New Ulm, Minnesota. He spent his childhood in the rural area of Sanborn, Minnesota. He saw action in Europe during World War II and was a member of the Nurnberg Military Tribunal’s honor guard in 1946. Don married Alice Maas on March 6, 1948 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye.

For his entire life, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Before to relocating to their farm on the outskirts of Evan, they spent a number of years living in rural Sanborn. Don enjoyed farming and his job as a ditch inspector for Brown County. His hobbies included going to church, serving as the president of the congregation and filling other roles, spending the summer weekends fishing for walleyes at Lake Mary, ice fishing, hunting, golfing, playing checkers, cribbage, card and dice games, gardening, dancing, and spending the winters in Arizona. The most important thing in Don’s life was his family, and he took particular pleasure in the younger members.

He is survived by his children Gary (Jayne) of Eden Prairie, Marc (Sue) of Evan, and Carol (Dave) Jacobson of Wells; his grandchildren Jason, Travis, Josh, Jacob, and Kevin Radel, Rob and Jeff Jacobson, Laurie Borris, and their spouses; sister Cynthia (Lou) Balgaard; sister-in-law LaVerne Radel; and brother-in-law Lester (Lois) Maas. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Alice, his parents, his daughter-in-law Janice, his brothers Melvin (and Helen), Ray (and Dolores), Orville, Vernon (and Arvis), sister Sylvia, sister-in-law Lucille Neal, and brother-in-law Gilbert (and Mildred) Maas.
