Chester was born in Durand, Michigan on October 22, 1943. His parents, the late Vernon and Nola (Cochrane) Dow, predeceased him. He received his diploma from Goodrich High School in 1962, making him a member of the school’s graduating class. On August 31, 1963, Chester wed the woman who would become the love of his life, Linda Wismer. He spent 30 years working with Koerts Glass and Paint, and a portion of that time was spent in the role of field superintendent. Chester was a devout follower of Christ and was actively involved in the ministry of the North Flushing Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee. He enjoyed running in the Masters division of track and field competitions and was a Lifetime member of the NRA. Chester enjoyed going on deer hunts and fishing for trout and walleye. His grandchildren have many happy recollections of time spent with Chet outside, on his forested property, enjoying nature and making memories together.
Boating on the Great Lakes in their Bayliner brought Chet and Linda a great deal of joy over their many years of marriage. When he was younger, he competed for Goodrich and won the state championship in the hurdles event. In his leisure time, he volunteered to assist with the coaching of the hurdlers on the Montrose Track Team. In his spare time, Chester liked to make gorgeous leaded glass projects, tell terrible jokes about his father, and spend time with his family. Above all else, he was a fantastic husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and he will be sorely missed by a large number of people.
Linda Dow, his wife of 59 years, is among those who have survived; Children: Martin Dow (married to Shelly), Christina Dow-Morris (married to Bob), and Michael Dow (married to Ann); Courtney (Kyle) Gleason, Michael Dow Jr., Connor Dow, and Caitlyn Dow are their grandparents’ grandchildren. His cherished pet cat Pickles, along with his great-grandchildren Mason, Ayden, and Liam, as well as his sister Carolyn Drake. His brother, Dallas Dow, his sister, Ava Brackett, and his niece, Lori Drake, have all passed away before him.
