Accident On 295 Today Jacksonville FL – One person was killed and two others were injured when a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 295 that involving an 18-wheeler occurred early on Saturday morning. The event involved multiple vehicles. A woman from Texas who was traveling in a Hyundai sedan and had just turned 22 years old was allegedly driving in the wrong direction on the left southbound lane of Interstate 295 beginning at Beach Boulevard, as reported by the Florida Highway Police (FHP).
At this time, a man in his twenties driving a BMW sedan from Jacksonville and a man in his forties driving an 18-wheeler from Hastings were both headed south on Interstate 295 in the direction of Beach Boulevard. The BMW sedan was driven by the man from Jacksonville, and the 18-wheeler was driven by the man from Hastings.
Following a head-on incident that occurred at approximately 3:11 in the morning between a Hyundai and a BMW, the BMW turned and collided with a guardrail after spinning out of control. The BMW proceeded to move into the right lane, where it was collided with by the 18-wheeler that was coming from the opposite direction. The 18-wheeler and the BMW both fell down an embankment at the same time, which caused the truck to tip over, as stated by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Tragically, the accident resulted in the death of the driver of the BMW. The driver of the Hyundai and the driver of the 18-wheeler both sustained injuries that are considered to be life-threatening as a result of the crash, as stated by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Florida Highway Patrol did not disclose any information regarding the various reasons why the Hyundai may have been going in the incorrect direction.
The southbound lanes of Interstate 295 are currently closed near the Atlantic Boulevard interchange while crews continue to work to clean the scene. This closure is expected to remain in place for the foreseeable future.
